Steve Stammers RIP
We at the FWA are devastated to learn that our great friend and colleague Steve Stammers has passed away after a short illness, at the age of 71.Steve was a stickler for doing things the right way, renowned for his generosity, humour, helpfulness to young reporters, and especially as a superb story-getter, covering London football for over 40 years. He started on the Brentwood Argus and went to Fleet Street via Hayters Sports Agency, working for the Daily Star, Evening Standard and Sunday Mirror. Ken Jones – by Norman Giller
Ken Jones, our former Chairman and Life Member who has passed away at the age of 87, went back many years with Norman Giller, who recalls:"It was just a few weeks ago that I last saw my old mate Ken Jones and his lovely wife, Kathy. We were at the memorial service for Hugh McIlvanney at St Bride’s in Fleet Street, and we made a pact. I told him: “I won’t come to your funeral, Ken, unless you come to mine. Ok?” I shook his left hand as he laughingly agreed.

Fitting send off for Albert Sewell
John Motson, Bob Wilson and Barry Davies were among the mourners as almost 100 friends and family members said their goodbyes to Albert Sewell, MBE, the former Hayters and BBC stalwart who passed away in June.It was standing room only at Breakspear Crematorium, west London, as a host of former colleagues joined his family to pay tribute to Albert, who was a Life Member of the FWA. Albert Sewell, MBE, RIP
Tributes have been pouring in after the passing of Albert Sewell MBE, who died aged 90 earlier this week. Albert was a life member of the FWA, the first employee and then director of Hayters sports agency and long-time editor of Chelsea's club programme. He was also the BBC's football statistics expert from 1968 until his retirement in 2005, often referred to by Match of the Day host Des Lynam as 'Our Albert'.
