Jack Charlton RIP
We at the FWA are saddened to learn of the passing on Friday of Leeds and England legend Jack Charlton OBE, at the age of 85.
Big Jack, as he was widely known, had an incredible playing career, culminating in a World Cup winner's medal in 1966 as well as numerous successes with Leeds United, his only club.

Gordon Banks RIP
We at the FWA join the rest of the football world in mouring the death of Gordon Banks, our former Footballer of the Year, who has passed away at the age of 81.
Banksy, or the Banks of England as he was nicknamed, will always have a special place in football history as England's goalkeeper when Sir Alf Ramsey's side won the World Cup in 1966, but arguably his most famous save came four years later, at the 1970 World Cup finals.

Gareth Southgate honoured by the FWA
Gareth Southgate became the latest recipient of the FWA Tribute Award at a star-studded ceremony in London's Savoy Hotel on Sunday January 20.The England manager was honoured for leading the Three Lions to the World Cup final last summer, and importantly for helping to reconnect the national team to their fans and the media.

Gareth Southgate to be honoured by the FWA
We at the Football Writers' Association are delighted to announce that the recipient of our Tribute Evening at the Savoy in January will be Gareth Southgate.Following discussions with Gareth, his team and the FA, we have decided against our traditional event. Unlike previous Tribute dinners, this one will not focus solely on Gareth's career but on what he has created as England manager with a new style of leadership and culture which helped the squad to a World Cup semi-final this summer.

FWA Live – Lampard and Scott on fine form
Our latest FWA Live was a great success, with England Legends Frank Lampard and Alex Scott joining Carrie Brown, Neil Ashton and Paul McCarthy on a panel to discuss the FA Cup final, World Cup and many other topics.Supported by our title sponsors William Hill, it was held at the Landmark Hotel, London, on Thursday May 17 and covered a lot of ground. Frank and Alex kindly donated their fees to charity. Frank donated his to the Matthew Harding Trust while Alex supported Millwall Lionesses, who are struggling to survive.

Ray Wilson RIP
The FWA sends condolences to family, friends and fans of Ray Wilson, the former Huddersfield and Everton full-back who won the World Cup with England in 1966 and has passed away at the age of 83.Wilson was an unsung hero on Sir Alf Ramsey's side that beat West Germany at Wembley to lift the World Cup, for which he was later awarded an MBE. He was a tenacious left-back with Huddersfield Town and Everton, who both posted messages of condolence.

Jamie Vardy voted FWA Footballer of the Year 2016
Leicester forward Jamie Vardy is the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year 2016.
The England international collected 36% of members’ votes, making him a clear winner ahead of Foxes' team-mates Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante.
The 29-year-old has scored 24 goals for club and country so far this season, which have helped to put Leicester on the verge of winning the Barclays Premier League title.
