Steve Curry – by Neil Harman
A tribute to Steve Curry by Neil Harman, who was his competitor, colleague and close friend for more than 30 years. My father was a broadsheet Daily Express man through and through. He never bought any other newspaper. When I was an upstart kid reporter on the Southend Evening Echo in the 1970s, the Daily Mail’s stringer Alf Smirk, used to tell me I’d write for the paper one day. Dad told me I should aspire to write for the Express.

FWA Q&A: Ian Ladyman
IAN LADYMAN of the Daily Mail on a love letter to the sports editor...breakfast with a tiger (no, really)...and trouble with a pony tail in the USAHave you ever worked in a profession other than football?
I was a news reporter for the Stoke Sentinel for three fantastic years. It’s a cliche but news is a great grounding. Being shouted at by Sir Alex Ferguson (not that it’s ever happened) is not so scary when you have had to knock on someone’s door and ask them if they will talk about the death of their son/daughter etc. The Sentinel ...

IT TOOK ME FIVE MINUTES TO MAKE UP MY MIND
After 20 years reporting the best games and the best teams, the Daily Mail’s chief football correspondent MATT LAWTON is ready for a new challenge as executive sports editorBy CHRISTOPHER DAVIES
IT HAD been an enjoyable summer for Matt Lawton, the Daily Mail’s chief football correspondent. Despite England doing what they usually do at major tournaments and losing on penalties in the quarter-finals, Euro 2012 was the best finals for many years, full of excellent football and outstanding individuals while Poland and Ukraine proved not to be the war zones predicted in some – well one – quarter.

NEIL MOXLEY of the Daily Mail on failing to tell Karren Brady where to go...a punch-up over Norah Jones...and champagne with Peter ReidYour first ever newspaper?
Solihull Times. I had match reports printed before then. I still have the clipping from the Daily Star report, Birmingham City 2 Hartlepool 1 from c. 1990 written under the watchful eye of John Curtis, from the Press Association, bless him. John is now 55 years old and dyes his hair. I hope I get that far.

Laura Williamson on travelling with Hawk-Eye...dismal haircuts...Jennifer Aniston...and super GrimsbyYour first ever newspaper?
The Hull Daily Mail, as part of the Daily Mail’s graduate reporter programme. I worked in news: the court reporting I enjoyed, the council meetings less so. And as for the dreaded ‘door knocks’ – the memories still bring a shudder.

My Week: Colin Young
The non-breakfasting Ireland correspondent of the Daily Mail takes us behind the scenes of the Republic’s qualification for Euro 2012...Monday November 8
An international week with the Republic of Ireland always starts at Newcastle airport, followed by the joys of a certain low budget airline. Thankfully I always manage to fall asleep on planes as soon as they start to taxi, so I have no idea what all the fuss is about. Myself and my colleague Damian Spellman from the Press Association, another North East football hack, arrive in wind-swept Dublin after midday and head straight to the ...
