David Meek Memorial Service

Following a priivate family service, there will be a Memorial Service to celebrate the life of David Meek at St Ann's Church, St Ann Street, Manchester M2 7LF on Wednesday 21 November at 1.30pm.

David's family have pointed out that his favourite colour was pink, so feel free to wear something with a splash of the colour.

In the meantime, we have on our YouTube channel and Facebook page, a beautiful filmed tribute to David made by MUTV, featuring tributes from Manchester United legends Bryan Robson and Paddy Crerand, as well as journalism colleagues Steve Bates, Neil Custis and Andy Mitten.   Visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GYwyugd2MA

  1. From Colin Evans:
I remember buying the first ever MEN Pink to read Meeky’s Utd report. It coincided with Law’s debut. I was then 13. After that I read almost everything he wrote, wondering whether I would be able to fulfill my ambition to be a sports reporter. Ten years later, Peter Slingsby, then boss of the Stewart and Hartley Press Agency, offered me a job. We had a lunchtime session in the old George and Dragon near Manchester’s Crown Square to celebrate. Then we drove in his Bentley to OT, parked up close by, and walked to the Staff door where as a kid I’d waited around after matches hoping to grab autographs. As we were moving into the Press Box Peter introduced me to David Meek. It was a moment I’ve always cherished. ‘Gentleman’, ‘great guy’ – he deserved all the tributes heaped on him. I will remember him as a friend, a top reporter who never panicked even with a deadline minutes away, and, most of all, ,my inspiration.
